Edward Davies
Policy Director
Before joining the CSJ in 2016 I had spent 15 years in health policy as a journalist, editor, and policy wonk. I worked for national newspapers and journals in the UK and US, and it gave me a healthy respect for the NHS as well as an appreciation for other ways of doing things. But most of all it led me to the conclusion that while our hospitals and GP surgeries really matter, the things that make us truly happy, as well as healthy, are to be found in our homes, families, education, and work. It’s the opportunities in our wider lives that matter, not just the hospitals we end up in. I actively sought out the CSJ, knowing this was the core of its work and the rest, as they say, is history. Well, almost. I also spent two years in government as an expert advisor to the Health Secretary from 2021-2023, before returning to the CSJ. During my time here, working with lots of small charities, families, and communities, I’ve also had a lot of my assumptions challenged on how you drive change. While we’re a Westminster-facing organisation, I’ve come to realise that people change people and a core role of government is to support those life-changing relationships.
Something you might not know about me
I’ve broken three people’s arms. None of them intentional. Maybe give me a wide berth.
