CSJ announce the appointment of Carolyn Harris as its new Vice-Chair

January 21, 2025

The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) is delighted to announce the appointment of Labour Member of Parliament Carolyn Harris as its new Vice-Chair. A long-standing friend of the CSJ since her election in 2015, Carolyn brings a wealth of experience to the CSJ’s mission to place social justice at the heart of British politics.

Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament, Carolyn began her career setting up two youth centres for disaffected young people. Her work continued in roles as a Regional Director for a not-for-profit organisation and a Regional Manager for a children’s cancer charity. Carolyn was elected as the MP for Swansea East in 2015, and has since held positions as Shadow Home Office Minister, Shadow Women and Equalities Minister, and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition. Currently, Carolyn serves as the inaugural first Deputy Leader of Welsh Labour – a position she has held since 2018.

Andy Cook, Chief Executive Officer, said:

“Carolyn is a fantastic addition to the CSJ Board. Her background fully aligns with our ambition to connect the backstreets of Britain with the corridors of power. In these turbulent times for so many people, she is a huge asset to the team, and we are excited to have her on board.”

Carolyn Harris said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as the Vice-Chair. We will only end poverty by tackling its root causes and I look forward to helping the CSJ in this core mission. Having worked with the CSJ since 2015, I have always admired their determination to step up, do the research and propose the policies that will help the most disadvantaged in society.”
